Preparing future educators for a fulfilling career in education

Hands-on experience with expert training, making it a transformative experience for aspiring educators.

A six-week immersive teaching apprenticeship designed for undergraduate students across the U.S. interested in pursuing a career in teaching PK-12. Participants will gain hands-on teaching experience while receiving intensive 1:1 and small group training and mentorship.

The Stevenson Teaching & Learning Institute will prepare participants for a fulfilling career in education and create lasting connections within the education community. This unique opportunity combines hands-on experience with expert training, making it a transformative experience for aspiring educators.

Program Goals:

  • Provide practical teaching experience with students ages 6-14.
  • Offer comprehensive teacher training.
  • Foster a community of future educators.
  • Equip participants with skills and knowledge to enhance their teaching practice.
  • Expose participants to the culture and pedagogy of independent schools.

Weekly Structure

Hands-on Teaching experience with veteran teachers:

9:15 a.m.-10:30 a.m. Class 1
10:45 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Class 2

 

Courses may include:

 

  • STEM, Tech, geometry, Spanish, writing, studio and performing arts, debate, entrepreneurship, algebra, etc…
  • Hands-on teaching with students
  • Focus on lesson planning, classroom management, and engaging diverse learners
  • Reflection sessions to discuss experiences and strategies
Teaching and Learning Institute

  • Workshops on pedagogy, curriculum development, assessment strategies, and inclusive practices.
  • Guest speakers from the education field (experienced teachers, administrators, etc.).
  • Collaborative projects to develop teaching resources.
  • Rejoin the camp activities! Step right into Night Programming.
  • Campers will have lights out between 9:30-10 pm. 
  • Time to relax.

Program Details

6 Weeks (6.23.25-8.2.25) 

  • Candidates can choose to participate in 2-week sessions or the entire 6-week program
  • Week-by-week plan
  • First two weeks, observation and training from mentor teacher
  • Second two weeks, teaching
  • Last two weeks, co-teaching

Sample Schedule:

  • 9:00 a.m.- 12:00 p.m. teaching ($23 an hour)
  • 12:00 p.m.-1:00 p.m. lunch
  • 1:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. Teaching Institute
  • 5:00 p.m.-10:00 p.m. Camp and dormitory supervision (staff members will be paid approximately $23 an hour for any additional work they choose to participate in)
Pebble Beach & Carmel, California
  • All participants will be housed on-site and provided with meals throughout the program
  • Campers will have lights out between 9:30-10 pm. 
  • Time to relax.

Staff members will be paid approximately $23 an hour for any additional work they choose to participate in during the afternoon/evening hours of the summer programs.

Participants will receive a certificate of completion at the end of the program.

1:1 mentoring sessions with experienced educators focusing on best teaching practices, career advice, and personal development.
  • Eligibility: Open to undergraduate and graduate students interested in teaching PK-12.
  • Application Materials: Resume, personal statement, and two letters of recommendation.
  • Completion of the interview process with Chief Culture Officer and Director of Summer & Auxiliary Programs
