Dear Stevenson Community,

After four weeks of "Reflecting on Our Progress, Inspiring Our Future," where we celebrated Stevenson's achievements, it's now time to look forward with purpose.

Today, I'm excited to share our new Strategic Vision—a roadmap that builds on our 70+ year legacy while charting our course for tomorrow. This vision centers on five priorities: academic excellence, student well-being, inclusivity and belonging, co-curricular growth, and sustainable stewardship.

This newsletter is dedicated to bringing together everything we've shared over the past month, alongside our complete Strategic Vision. I encourage you to explore the full vision on our website, where you'll find details about our initiatives and guiding principles.

Thank you for your partnership in making Stevenson a place where students develop a passion for learning, achieve success, and shape joyful lives.

Dr. Dan Griffiths

Upper Division
Place-Based Learning, Academic Innovation, and MSEC

Our Upper Division was featured in three key videos during our month-long celebration.

"Bringing Learning to Life" highlights our experiential education approach through programs like X-Term, where students immerse themselves in transformative experiences at locations like Elkhorn Slough and Tassajara Zen Mountain Center.

"Shaping The Future: Innovation in Learning at Stevenson" explores how our faculty are reimagining traditional subjects to create multiple pathways to success across all disciplines.

"Empowering Tomorrow's Innovators" offers an exciting preview of our new math, science, and engineering center opening in 2026-27, which will quadruple our STEM learning spaces and foster interdisciplinary collaboration.

Lower & Middle Divisions
Lower Division

We highlighted the Lower Division’s innovative Writing Workshop program. This comprehensive approach builds strong literacy foundations for our K-4 students by combining structured learning with creative expression. The program introduces young writers to multiple styles, helping them discover their unique voices while developing essential skills. Teachers personalize instruction to ensure every student grows into a confident writer and communicator.

Foundations of Expression
Middle Division

We highlighted the Middle Division’s comprehensive approach to preparing students for Upper Division and beyond. Learning extends beyond traditional classrooms through environmental programs and immersive science camps at locations including Catalina Island and Yosemite. Strengthened STEM curricula challenge students to think creatively and engage in hands-on experiments, developing academic foundations and personal growth.

Building Bridges
Financial Aid
Making Education Accessible

Our thoughtful approach to financial aid ensures talented students from diverse economic backgrounds can access the full Stevenson experience. Our commitment extends beyond covering tuition through "full experience funds" that enable participation in all aspects of school life—from wilderness expeditions to prom tickets. Working alongside our Equity and Inclusion team, these initiatives create a diverse, vibrant community where students from all backgrounds can thrive.

Human Resources
Bringing the Best to Stevenson

Stevenson's strategic investments in human resources have transformed how we recruit, support, and retain talented professionals. Under Director of Human Resources, Susan Khanna's leadership, we've centralized hiring processes across both campuses, ensuring consistency and equity while expanding benefits and compensation transparency. Our commitment to diversity and inclusion shapes recruitment practices, helping build a community where exceptional educators can collaborate, grow professionally, and make a lasting impact on student success.

Creating Community
Building Belonging

Stevenson's approach to creating belonging places the student voice at the center through leadership programs and affinity groups. In this video, we highlight how our prefects serve as community leaders in residential life, creating welcoming environments and providing peer support. These initiatives develop crucial leadership skills while fostering an inclusive community where students can lead with empathy and purpose. Additionally, student-led affinity groups, supported by adult mentors, provide consistent opportunities for connection and dialogue. Our collaborative approach evolves with community needs as students co-create the affinity curriculum.
