In Dr. Karen Hiles’ English 3H class, students were assigned to share some of the wisdom they’ve acquired during the pandemic—but in the form of pithy, traditional “Ben Franklin-style” aphorisms.

After a discussion of Franklin and Poor Richard’s Almanac, each student wrote three aphorisms to sum up the nuggets of knowledge they’d gained over the past several months. The students enjoyed being able to use their creativity and wit to distill what they’d learned during their time away from campus, and students reported finding their classmates’ aphorisms both relatable—and helpful!

Here are a few aphorisms from the students and Dr. Hiles that may have you laughing—and nodding in agreement.
