Congratulations to Jeff Yamashita who was presented with the 2022 Dormer Award! As the athletic trainer for Stevenson, Mr. Yamashita has coached more students than any other coach year-in, year-out as he tends to injuries, prehab, rehab, both physical and emotional. In addition to being a full-time... trainer, Mr. Yamashita is the assistant athletic director, JV softball coach, and teaches sports medicine, one of Stevenson's most requested elective courses.

The Don L. Dormer Coach’s Award annually recognizes a coach who teaches, cajoles, and inspires his or her team to reach their greatest potential while developing a true appreciation of the sport regardless of the team's final record. Don Dormer Sr. was a trustee and chairman of the Stevenson Board of Trustees from 1969-1971. In his honor, Stevenson annually recognizes a coach like Mr. Yamashita. The award was established in 2003 by Don Dormer Jr. '71 and Deke Dormer '03; Kevin McNeely ‘71 and his father, Don McNeely, also a Stevenson trustee; Roger Ricklefs ‘57; and Robert Ricklefs ‘59.

Today our Stevenson students attended Discovery Day at Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey. Students were greeted by NASA Astronaut, Naval Officer, and Naval Postgraduate School Alumnus, Captain Victor Glover. Students listened and explored topics of military awareness and keeping our nation safe... through community education and exposure. They also had the opportunity to experience how NPS uses political science, world history, robotics, infrared cameras, autonomous vehicles, and STEM efforts to help military missions around the world. In addition, students were able to learn about the local history of the Del Monte Hotel and the activities of the Naval Postgraduate School.
