BSU’s Around the Bay College NightThursday, October 5, 6:00 p.m., Sacred Heart Prep, AthertonIn response to the Supreme Court’s decision to end race conscious admissions within the college process, the leaders of Black Student Unions Around the Bay have created “College Night” to engage in meaningful, in person discussions about college admission alongside representatives from some of the nation’s top universities. This event, which is co-sponsored by BSU chapters in both private and public Peninsula high schools, is for black-identifying prospective students and families, and aims to educate other black and African-American students and their families about their college options. The night will feature consortium-style presentations followed by a Q & A panel centered on the black student experience at these PWIs. PLAN. October 11 is an X day.Grade 10 and 11 students will be taking the PSAT on campus. Students should arrive for test check-in by 8:45 a.m. The College Center will send more details in the coming weeks.Grade 12 students will either take the SAT (must be registered with the College Center; arrive for check-in by 7:45 a.m.) or spend the day working on college applications and meeting with their college counselors. The student life office will provide separate programming for grade 9 students, and they should plan to be on campus by 8:30 a.m.

Students must complete the necessary steps on their testing device in order to prepare for testing day. We are pleased to announce a Kind Campaign event for your female-identifying child on Thursday, October 19 from 5:00 p.m.–7:30 p.m. at the Carmel campus. The Kind Campaign is an internationally recognized nonprofit organization that brings awareness and healing to the negative and lasting effects of girl-against-girl bullying. Our students will be joined by student leaders from the Pebble Beach Campus to view the documentary Finding Kind and participate in activities designed around the Kind Campaign curriculum. An important part of our social-emotional learning experience, this event will be facilitated by Willow Manspeaker, Sylvia Ishii, Gina Edwards, and Molly Bozzo. We strongly encourage all female-identifying students in Grades 7 and 8 to attend and will provide dinner during the evening's activities.

REGISTER. We will be hosting a lifeguard certification course October 28-29th at the Morgan Pool for any students interested in receiving their lifeguarding credentials. Course fees are $300 and include online pre-work. Individuals who complete the course will be eligible for weekend lifeguarding gigs at the Morgan Pool on the Pebble Beach campus. Individuals must be legally able to work in the United States to be considered for weekend employment. Upon completion of four weekend shifts, the cost of the course will be reimbursed.
