At Stevenson, we believe the earliest years of learning lay the foundation for a joyful life rooted in curiosity, confidence, and connection.

In our Pre-Kindergarten program, children learn by doing—exploring ideas through hands-on experiences and creative play, guided by caring educators who support each child’s growth and individuality.

With a focus on inquiry, collaboration, and social-emotional development, we nurture curiosity, empathy, and resilience—planting the seeds for a lifelong love of learning.

How to Apply to Pre-K at Stevenson

Follow the steps below outlining the admissions process for the youngest learners. We are here to help your family personally every step of the way. For some of you, this may be your first time completing an application process to an independent school.

Please note that all applicants to Pre-K must be age 4 by September 1 of their Pre-K year.

Pre-K Admissions Process

  • Step 1: Complete the student inquiry form

Please let us know you are interested in learning more and applying! We’ll add you to our mailing list to receive periodic updates about the Stevenson community and invitations to upcoming admissions events.

  • Step 2: Once you have completed the inquiry you will receive directions to set up your personal Pirate Page

  • Step 3: Complete the online application

  • Step 4: Schedule your Family Tour, Pre-K Shadow Morning & Saturday Visit, and Assessment

Family Tour: Once your child’s application has been submitted, you are invited to tour the beautiful campus and meet with the Director of Admissions. This conversation is a chance for us to get to know your family, learn more about your child, and answer any questions you may have about our unique Pre-K programming and curriculum. The tour and conversation will last about an hour.

Pre-K Shadow Morning: Once your child’s application has been submitted, your child will be invited to experience a brief morning as a Pre-K student. During the hour-long visit, your child will participate in Morning Meeting and Morning Centers in the Pre-K Classroom.

Pirate Playdate and Assessment: Once your child’s application has been submitted, your child will be invited to our Pirate Playdate and Assessment. These visits are scheduled on Saturday mornings to ensure your child is rested, comfortable, and ready to engage. Young children often do their best thinking and interacting earlier in the day, when they are fresh and focused. During the visit, your child will have another opportunity to spend time on the Kindergarten playground as well as have a one-on-one, age-appropriate assessment with a teacher.

A weekend morning also allows you, as parents, to participate fully without weekday distractions. During your child’s classroom experience, you will have the opportunity to hear from the head of the Lower Division about what makes our Pre-K program unique, meet current Stevenson parents, and meet with other prospective families.
