A Message From the Dean

Welcome to the new school year! Last spring, our faculty and staff worked tirelessly to provide exceptional curricular and co-curricular activities for our students and their families. Along the way, we learned valuable lessons that will help us this fall as we continue to provide our students with an educational experience that is meaningful, nourishing, relevant, and learner-centered. In my role as dean of the middle division, I couldn’t be more excited to welcome your children back to campus and help Stevenson move forward.

Over the past several months, we reviewed our daily schedule in light of research regarding effective learning environments for students between the ages of 11-14. Our findings have resulted in an updated middle division schedule that includes such features as:

  • 75-minute class periods to afford time for deeper understanding, cross-curricular instruction, and project-based learning within subject areas
  • Integrated workshops and labs for all subject areas
  • Regular advisory and grade-level meetings
  • Staggered drop-off and pick-up windows to reduce traffic and families’ wait times

Please contact me with any questions. I look forward to working with you to support our students this year. Thank you for your continued patience and trust. Go Pirates!

Sincerely,

Anthony Schipper
Dean of the Middle Division
